Icons of Abruzzo

Torre dei Beati, located in Loreto Aprutino, a hilltop town in Abruzzo, was founded in 1999 by Adriana Galasso and her husband Fausto Albanesi. They took over vineyards first planted by Adriana's father, Rocco, in 1972, and released their first bottling under the Torre dei Beati label in 2000. The estate converted to organic farming early on and now covers about 20 to 22 hectares, sitting between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso d'Italia, the highest peak in the Apennines. This location gives the vineyards warm sea breezes by day and cool mountain air at night, which helps preserve freshness in the grapes. The winery focuses on native varieties, mainly Montepulciano, Pecorino, and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, and their Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Rosa-ae was named Rosé of the Year by Gambero Rosso in 2020. The name itself, meaning "Tower of the Blessed," comes from a detail in a 15th-century fresco in the nearby church of Santa Maria in Piano.
