The Legacy Vine

Some wine stories are defined by a place. Others are defined by a person. The story of Matteo Correggia is both.

In the 1980s, Matteo took over his family's small winery in Canale d'Alba in the Roero — the lesser-known, sandier hills that face Barolo and Barbaresco across the Tanaro River — and set about quietly changing what the world thought of this region. Through meticulous attention to the vineyard and an unwavering belief in Roero's native grapes — Nebbiolo, Arneis, and Barbera — he helped elevate the area into one of Piedmont's most respected appellations, earning international recognition for wines that were elegant, honest, and deeply rooted in place.

Matteo's life was cut tragically short in 2001 in a vineyard accident, but his vision did not end with him. His wife Ornella stepped forward and carried the winery on — preserving everything Matteo had built while ensuring his pioneering spirit continued to live in every bottle. It is one of the wine world's most quietly moving stories of love, loss, and devotion to craft.

Joining us to pour and guide the evening is Matteo Boffo of Giuliana Imports, who will bring the story of the estate to life alongside each wine. Come ready to be moved — by the wines, and by the remarkable people behind them.
