Brunello Roots: The Wines of Capanna
Capanna, a renowned winery in Montalcino, Italy, has been run by the Cencioni family since 1957. Giuseppe Cencioni founded it in the Montosoli area, and with his sons Benito and Franco, made it one of the first modern-era Brunello estates. They began bottling their own wine in the 1960s, and after Brunello di Montalcino earned DOC status in 1966, Giuseppe became one of 25 founders of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. The estate is still family-run, with the Cencionis handling both farming and winemaking. They also work with oenologist Paolo Vagaggini to keep quality high. That hands-on approach has made Capanna one of the top names in Montalcino.
