The Barolo Boys: Clerico & Sandrone
During the late 1980s and 1990s, a generation of Piedmontese producers began challenging the conventions of one of Italy's most storied appellations. Shorter macerations, green harvesting, and the introduction of smaller French oak barrels were seen as radical departures from the structured, austere style Barolo had long been known for — and two of the movement's most influential voices were Domenico Clerico and Luciano Sandrone.
Both winemakers played an instrumental role in pushing Barolo forward, and it is a rare treat to taste their wines side by side. Joining us on-site is Crystal Edgar Whitcroft, Co-founder of D&P Selezioni — the importer representing both estates — who brings firsthand knowledge of these historic wineries and the stories behind each bottle.
